Barcelona - Alaves confirmed as 2016-17 Copa del Rey final

The Catalan side will be going for their 29th cup success against a side who've never won it

Deportivo Alaves have qualified for the 2016-17 Copa del Rey final, which will take place on May 27 at a yet to be decided stadium, after knocking out Celta Vigo on Wednesday.

Alaves, who drew the first leg 0-0 at Balaidos, won by a single goal -- scored by substitute Edgard Mendez -- to reach the first Copa del Rey final in their history.

There are five previous meetings between them and Barcelona in the cup, although they have never met beyond the last four. Luis Enrique's Barça have won the trophy 28 times and will be competing in their 39th final.

No club in Spain has won more Copa del Reys than Barça, who are looking to win it for the third consecutive season under Luis Enrique, matching a record they produced in the early 1950s.

Alaves have reached this stage by beating Nàstic de Tarragona (0-3 and 3-0) and Deportivo de la Coruña (2-2 and 1-1) cortesy of the away goals rule.

In the last eight they then eliminated Alcorcón (0-2 and 0-0) before getting the better of Eduardo Berizzo's Celta (1-2 y 2-2), who had beaten Real Madrid in the previous round.

Barça will not be taken them for granted, either. They lsot to Alaves 2-1 when the sides met at Camp Nou in La Liga earlier this season.

The Blaugrana reached the final with wins over Hércules (1-1 and 7-0), Athletic Club (2-1 and 3-1), Real Sociedad (0-1 and 5-2) and Atlético Madrid (1-2 and 1-1).
