Barça winger Ousmane Dembélé's last words to Xavi

The coach and the player had a chat in the United States in which the Frenchman clarified the reasons for his departure

Xavi Hernandez, as on so many other occasions, tried to intervene to ensure Dembélé's continuity. He tried having a sincere chat with the Frenchman, who appreciates the unwavering support and trust shown in him ever since his arrival at the club.

Ousmane had already made his decision though and it had nothing to do with his day-to-day life in the dressing room.

The player was very clear with Xavi, to whom he said that "If it were up to you, I would stay, coach. For you and the fans, I'd stay, but that's not the problem". Dembélé, in that sense, has ended up deciding because he has not felt that the confidence received from the coaching staff has been the same from the club, from whom he has never felt the same support nor the same desire to remain part of the project.

Very grateful to Xavi

The Frenchman was fully committed to the Blaugrana during the negotiations for his renewal even whilst there were rumours about a hypothetical interest on the part of the club to sell him. In this way, Ousmane wanted to show Xavi the affection he has for him, although after the renewal deal that was offered and the club's stance not changing, his decision was irrevocable and, in fact, yesterday Thursday he flew to Paris to close his signing for PSG.
