Barca have a multi-million offer to give their name to a Qatari team

Barça president Joan Laporta travelled to Doha, the capital of Qatar, on 15 June, accompanied by Xavi Puig, the manager responsible for women's football, and Joan Soler, the manager responsible for youth football. The visit lasted two days, during which the Blaugrana club representatives made a number of institutional contacts.

Officially, the visit to Qatar was for personal matters, as Soler has opened a business line in the food sector in Qatar and Laporta's office, of which Puig is a partner, is managing it.

Puig's presence, however, also opened the door to the management of a friendly match of the women's football first team in the Arab country, taking advantage of the pull that the Jonatan Giráldez team has after having won the second Champions League in its history. In this sense, there was speculation of a possible exhibition match with Chelsea.

The Barça representatives held meetings with various sponsors in their search for new revenue streams and this Wednesday, journalist Laia Tudel revealed on Catalunya Radio's 'Tot Costa' programme that the Blaugrana club had received a multi-million dollar proposal to give its name to a team in the Qatar Stars League, Qatar's top league, which would be an extraordinary source of income that would allow Barça to extend their financial fair play.

According to this information, the proposal could rise to 100 million a year for the creation of a new team that would bear the Barça name. A tempting offer which, however, would have some obstacles to overcome. Among them, the club's statutes, which would probably have to be modified.

The proposal is only in its initial phase and it is worth remembering that the possibility of creating a team in the MLS was raised once upon a time but did not materialise.
