Barça coach Koeman not giving up on signing Man City's Eric Garcia

The Dutchman says a summer deal is more likely but until the window closes...

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman is not giving up on Eric Garcia. He doesn't want to consider a possible January signing off the table yet even though if it's more likely the Manchester City defender signs in January when he's out of contract.

"It's more than likely we will have him next season," Koeman said in a press conference on Saturday. "If it's not possible now, we have to accept it and continue with what we have. But I don't know. I don't want to waste any more energy on this when my job is to focus on preparing the team for matches."

Koeman revealed he has spoke with Man City coach Pep Guardiola recently but not about Garcia.

"I called Pep on his 50th birthday to wish him well," the Dutchman said. "We spoke but not about Eric Garcia. That's not my job. I am here to coach."

In fact, Koeman's a little tired of the subject now: "I think it's normal to talk so much about it because it's a signing and because of the circumstances around the club. But I've said what I think and what happens is nothing I can control because I am focused on what is important, which is winning games."
