Laporta says the figures will have to be revisited when the financial year closes on June 30

Barcelona's general assembly approved the budget for the 2020-21 season on Sunday even though the club admitted the figures have already been proved wrong.

Of the voting members present at Camp Nou, 578 voted in favour of the numbers, which predicted revenue of over €800 million for the season. There were 71 votes against and 94 abstentions.

President Joan Laporta acknowledged that the numbers will have to be revisited next month, with the financial year due to officially close on June 30.

However, the approval of the numbers, for now, was necessary for the club to continue as normal on a day to day basis.

"We worked on the hypothesis fans would be back by February," former vice president Jordi Moix explained about the budgeted revenue.

"We also predicted a smaller fall in income from the club shops. It's not been the case. The results from this past season will not be positive, they will be negative. We haven't fulfilled what we laid out in October."

Laporta added: "It's true the prediction will not be met. For that reason, I ask you to make an impossible trip back to February 2020 (when the assembly should have been held). This is down to the pandemic we have been through."
