Barça are looking for a player who first a certain profile to fill in for the injured Luis Suarez, who's out for four months. Giroud ticks the boxes as someone with a proven track record and international experience.

The Catalan club have explored the market but the elevated asking prices that January brings coupled with their economic situation has made it difficult. Now, the priority is to look for a loan without an obligatory option to buy.

Giroud fits those demands, He's only played seven games this season: five in the Premier League, one in the European Super Cup and one in the Champions League. He wants more football ahead of Euro 2020.

Barça are not the only side interested. Inter Milan are also on the scent, as are Premier League side Aston Villa, who have been left short in attack following an injury to Wesley.

Giroud, a World Cup winner in 2018, was also linked with Barça last January before they finally signed Kevin Prince Boateng on loan from Sassuolo.
